Past Events

During 1999, we were discussing ways in which we could promote the religious aspects at the turn of the Millennium - focusing people’s thoughts on the fact that we were celebrating 2000 years of Christ.  One of our congregation saw how our modern church building with a steep roof could be transformed into a giant art exhibition.  Artists, local schools and groups were commissioned to paint 5x4 foot painting depicting their interpretation of religion in the new Millennium.  Whereas we originally hoped for 24 paintings, we have been overwhelmed with the response which resulted in 45 paintings.  These have been supplemented with 6 biblical texts chosen by members of our Parish team, our local Bishop and Archdeacon. The exhibition was launched on 8 January 2000 with a Service of Dedication entitled "From Darkness to Light".  This service was conducted by the Rt Revd Dr Laurie Green, The Bishop of Bradwell, in the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress of Castlepoint Councillor & Mrs Tony Hurd.

The exhibition is still on show and will be open throughout the year 2002 usually from 9am - 3pm daily.  Please phone the Parish Office on 01268 511098 to confirm opening times.
