About the Parish

Canvey Island is in Essex, situated on the north bank of the Thames Estuary. The Island forms one parish in terms of the Church of England’s parish boundaries. The population of the island, and therefore that served by the Ministry Team, is in the region of 45,000. Although the population is large, there is a strong sense of community.

For readers interested in the structure of the Church of England, the parish is in the Diocese of Chelmsford – in the Bradwell Episcopal area, the archdeaconry of Southend and the Hadleigh deanery! The 3 churches which make up the team have different types of congregations and worship styles and this is reflected to some extent in their respective web pages.
